But oh what a lot of dew.

It started raining two nights ago, and it hasn't really let up.

There's been a very heavy downpour in the area around my house, snarling up traffic for me as I tried to get to and from an early-morning appointment. What's worse, the continuous deluge has stopped up the drainage to my patio in the back, and water is now seeping under the door. My uncle/landlord is out in a slicker trying to find some way to alleviate it, and I've got towels up against my door so that my carpet doesn't get ruined. Suddenly, though, I am very leery about running my computer in the corner of the room very close to the door.

The level keeps rising. My uncle just brought me a large canvas that he hopes will work better than towels. He's trying to set up a plastic tarp against the jamb so that nothing more will get in. He's weighted it down with just about anything he can find. I've wedged the canvas in as close as I can and laid my few plastic bags underneath it, so that it's wicking does not, of itself, damage the carpet.

I think we've got it under control. Hopefully, the torrent will abate soon, and he can do some real work in preventing this kind of flood. Still, I don't think I'm going to sleep easy tonight.

I live in a rain forest...

...and I used to have that problem with my garage door. I finally got a rubber seal that you can probably find if you live in a large metropolitan area. It's basically a rubber jam that adheres to the bottom of the door. Works like a charm. You'd need a different type than what I have on my garage door (because a garage door comes straight down to form the seal, whereas your door needs to sweep open and closed) but if you can't find one specifically for your type of door and you're in a real pinch, go to an automotive store and see if they can help you out through creative use of a garage door type seal. Just a thought.

It is wicking?
