Wake Up! Don't Sweep Your Wife Away!

My latest Beyond Tetris article is up on Game Set Watch. As promised, it's about Minesweeper.

The article has a lot of details about the mainframe and BASIC ancestors of the game because I got caught up in some "I think Wikipedia is wrong" research. And I didn't go too deep into the variants, because there are so damn many of them, and most of them have some sort of overlap. Sadly, it appears that I forgot to mention Crazy Minesweeper, which is a variant of Minesweeper where different mines have different values. I mention this one in particular, because it's one of the variants I've been enjoying playing, so I don't know how I missed it. Probably because there are just too many damn variations.

My sleep schedule didn't correct, and I couldn't get to sleep today; I lay in bed, feeling wakeful and a little bit ill. So I couldn't have gotten more than four hours of sleep today. So, nothing fancy tomorrow, just watching more [livejournal.com profile] cramerica on Jeopardy!, then straight to bed.

Hey look, one of your links is to my article that somebody reposted somewhere without permission!

Here's the original: http://nothings.org/games/minesweeper/

No problem; I posted here rather than on the article so there'd be less of a public drat.

I'm still fond of Mines Perfect (mentioned on my blog way back when I actually thought I'd be posting to it) in that you don't get the coin-flip situation.

I do realize some Minesweeper players like the gambling aspect to it all.
