Brainfreeze

I was at the market today, and I was pleased to see that the ice-cream section was becoming more diversified. They were carrying larger sizes of Ben and Jerry's and smaller sizes of Breyers and the store brand. As a man living alone (for another month, at least), the smaller sizes of the cheaper brands were good to see. The half-gallon cartons can be intimidating, it can take seemingly forever to finish them alone.

Really, there's not much else to say about the topic, so here's a poll. Take "ice cream" to mean any sort of frozen sweets, and make your decision regardless of whether your favorite brand of flavor is available in that size (i.e., if you would ideally purchase N&J in five-gallon tubs, choose the "Larger than a gallon" option).

Also, I was surprised to find this song on my iPod last night. I can't remember where it came from. But I like it, which probably accounts for its appearance in some way.

I'm a bit stymied in that I treat any size container of ice cream as a single serving. Thus if I could buy, say, half a cup of ice cream, this would be ideal, because then I would eat half a cup of ice cream, which is a reasonable amount. If I buy a pint of B & J, I pretty much don't stop eating until it's gone. I'm not dissatisfied if I get half a cup if I'm sharing it with 3 other people, but if I'm alone with a pint of, say, New York Super Fudge Chunk, the ice cream doesn't stand a chance.

I force myself to put half a cup in a bowl and put the rest of the ice cream way at the back of the freezer, and eat it really slowly.

It works almost all the time. Almost.

But I should add that if I did not have a boyfriend with a sweet tooth, I would only buy the stuff in single-serving sizes on a whim. Ben and Jerry's actually does that. It's tiny and cute.

I'm pleased to learn that Breyer's sells something smaller than a half-gallon now. That increases the chances that I will buy some from 5% to 15%.

Alas, the standard size is no longer a half-gallon. They've all gone to 1.75 quarts. What is this world coming to?
