John Stewart Is Dead.

No, internet, not Jon. No need to bend over backwards to spread the news like you did for Heath Ledger. This was an earlier John Stewart, a member of the Kingston Trio, the man who wrote Daydream Believer. He a little while ago, but the Hunt kind of put me in a time warp. My father and his friends were huge fans, and I first learned about Stewart on a group vacation to Big Sur. Everywhere we went, we seemed to be listening to a strange song, that was mostly talking, about "The Old Campaigner." As I got older, I listened to California Bloodlines, and understood what all the fuss was about.

My father wrote about him better than I can, but here's a video of him singing one of his best songs, "Mother Country," just last year. Of course, to really get the full effect, you should listen to the original, with his deep, rich voice, but that doesn't appear to be floating on the internet just now. Better find it on your own.

I still have those mix tapes with California Bloodlines and Mother Country on them after all these years. I always associated California Bloodlines with you and how you weren't home anywhere else but California. But I didn't know the music had a deeper connection to family and sense of place for you than just lyrical association.

See, I know who John Stewart is(thanks to the bf), and may he R.I.P. He's worked with an array of awesome ppl like the Monkees, Fleetwood Mac, and of course his own works (California Bloodlines is pretty ace)

But I must say it always annoys me when ppl argue over deaths and whose is more significant. I'm not sure whats up with this wave of Ledger backlash (not you in particular, just an a certain air I've been sensing when hearing some ppl talk about it)

Personally I quite like Heath Ledger...he was talented (and hot) But talented more importantly(seriously).

They've both contributed their piece to the world, what more can you ask.

Argh, what a bummer. I hadn't heard. I got to know Stewart through being a Stevie Nicks fan -- the two of them did a great song together called "Gold." I had no idea he had such a storied history. Sad news indeed.
