The Present of Television.
I really love Hulu. They've been adding a lot of content, to the point where it's hard to decide what watch.
It's not the future of television, by any means. But I think it's decidedly the present, which is still quite an achievement in a television, which seems so trapped in the past.
What it feels like is cable about ten years ago, a sea of reruns waiting to be rewatched. With a few exceptions (like the eternal Law and Order marathon that is TNT and USA), it's been replaced with cheap "original" content. The Scifi Channel used to show any reruns of just about every show that ever possibly a character say the word "space." And now, it's filled with terrible movies.
It's great for the folks who own the shows. I mean, at this point what they really want, when it comes to older shows, is for you to buy the DVD. But how do you know you want the DVD if there's no other way for you to watch the show? And for shows that can't really go into syndication (like Firefly, popular but with only half a season), it's fantastic.
I was thinking about putting a list of things I intend to watch, but it was just too big. So here's a selection of clips that I've been watching:
