I was willing to give them a pass on the Aztec bloodstone, since it acted up in America. But going to France to steal something French? That was a step too far. Besides, it's much more interesting to think of the weird random bits of Americana that would be in there, rather than it being cluttered up with Sir Walter Raleigh's cigarette holder and Lao Tze's calligraphy pen and whatnot.
Three episodes in, my opinion is still "not brilliant, but kinda fun". My wife's is "it needs more Saul Rubinek".
I haven't seen more than the first few seconds of this week's episode, but when I saw "Paris, France," I was worried it was going there. Similarly, I haven't had a chance to rewatch the pilot, but the show explicitly stated that the MacGuffin had been 0smuggled out of Italy.
I'm leery of the "acted up in" argument. In this world, I imagine that quite a few Egyptian artifacts "acted up in" the UK, that doesn't mean they belong there. (Of course, we'll probably those artifacts in Warehouse 13, too.)
The Paris bit was just the opening segment to establish a few character things; the main action is entirely in America with, I'm pretty sure, purely American artefacts.
But yes, the "acted up" argument isn't necessarily very good. Like I said, I was willing to give them a pass on it, a sort of mulligan, but. Really, I'd like to think that there are warehouses around the world (perhaps 12 others?) that store their local artefacts, perhaps with the bloodstone being shipped back to the Mexico City warehouse during their once-a-year shipments...at least, it would have been nice if it worked that way. Ah well.
What, no pro wrestling memorabilia?
