That seems unrelated to his point: I don't think Tablesaw was saying "writers should self-publish their books", but just "it's not hard for writers to get a second, related but non-book, stream of income that doesn't require all the publisher infrastructure".

Of course if writers did this, what would the webcomics authors do???
