(no subject)

I've not been sleeping well. Maybe it's the heat.

That's right, the heat. Those of you not in the Southern California may not be aware that we're in the middle of an extreme heat wave, with highs in the eighties in many areas. Even for Los Angeles, that's unseasonably warm. And with all this heat, I am getting very, very worried about my upcoming visit to Providence and Boston. I mean, it's slightly above freezing over there. What was I thinking? I'm definitely going to need to buy a few warm shirts before i leave.

Anyway, for the past few days, I've been waking up for no reason at about 3 p.m., after only four hours of sleep. I've had mixed results trying to fall back asleep, sometimes succeeding quickly, sometimes being delayed over an hour. The choppiness of my sleep has led to some strange, but extremely hard to remember dreams. All I can remember from yesterday's was that I was in another country, which I assume was Israel since I met [livejournal.com profile] orenr's family. At some point I was also driving a truck.

Er, yeah, darlin'. Warm clothes *good*.

There's snow on the ground right now -- not a lot, but this tells me that it's juuust below freezing. The sun's shining, though, and it's beautiful. This may all change by next week, or in the next hour.

THE HEAT

is driving me CRAZY!!!!! I think if anything, high temps in the fall and winter will definitely drive me out of town permanently!!!! I have lived in LA all my life, and somehow I seem to like a change of seasons (which in talking to people is not how other Angelenos feel). I like when it gets cold, I like that for a season I can see my breath when I breathe out! Then I like when it starts to warm up again, ever so slowly. Hmm, what to do?

The office didn't get their act together in time to get me a train to Westport, so Friday night I had to drive to southwestern Connecticut in a blizzard. First I had to chip my car out of the ice. Then I had to drive through a dense snowpack that caused my car to swerve in a random direction whenever I attempted to slow down until I reached the freeway, which had enough traffic on it that tire ruts had been worn into the snow. I had my windshield wipers on to keep the snow from piling up and blocking my view of the road, but they pushed the snow into small glaciers at the sides of the windshield, and these glaciers in turn warped the wiper blades such that the blades lost contact with the glass. It was around this point that the snow turned to sleet. Ice chunks accumulated on the windshield which I could now no longer remove except by periodically stopping to scrape them off by hand.

Well, I think your username would tell me that you are fond of warm weather, especially the summer... :-) Not I. I like seasons. I like a change in temp every now and again.
