Between not sleeping and/or catching up on lost sleep, I've been writing down my thoughts on The Matrices, which is taking a lot longer than I would have expected.

My sleeping problems seem to be linked to the very hot weather we've been having in The Valley. I've never thought I needed my AC unit while I slept, but it turns out I do. I turn it down pretty low, and turn it off once I get up, but I still feel bad. Of course, then I remember the insomniac sweat into which I awoke on Wednesday, then I don't feel so bad.

I'm getting out of town on Monday, though, and hopefully I'll find some nice weather for the beginning of Commercial Summer.

Also, I'm going to pimp some things:

• I got mentioned at www.mathpuzzle.com, after giving Xeipon a plethora of IF-related links to take him on beyond PUTPBAD.
  
• I posted the current 'brevITy' puzzle at the Discussion Pages of The Grey Labyrinth. Scroll down a bit to find the puzzle "Entering the Unknown."
  
• Kevin Wald wrote an absolutely fantastic cryptic crossword for Buffy fans. It's short, sweet, and yet still satisfyingly complicated. Anyone with even a slight interest in cryptics or Buffy should solve Class Protector.

And, honestly, thank you for suggesting that Xeipon look at, you know, anything other than PUTPBAD, which is not exactly the height of modern IF.

Kevin's cryptic was a great way to kill some time at (very dead) work today. [semi-spoilers in white text] It took me much longer than I'd care to admit to find the "talisman"--I thought I was looking for a shape that could be inferred from the correct arrangement of clue letters. I'm not sure Kevin really needed to warn anyone about Buffy spoilers; the only parts that I'd call spoilery are 6A, 8A, and 1D--and if you don't know [more spoiler] who William the Bloody is, then what are you doing solving a Buffy puzzle in the first place?
