The new "Component" layout is the hottest thing on LiveJournal since the new style settings came out, and it's the only one I've seen that does what I want it to. If you're reading from your friends page, take a look at my main page and marvel at the difference [style is no longer the same].

Hey, that is nifty, especially the 'points beyond' section. I don't have the energy to wrestle with S2 right now, but I might give that style a whirl at some point.

For now, I'm choosing function over form. I'm still looking for the perfect color scheme, and I'm sure there will be follow-ups to this layout in the future.

Well, other than the fact that it's CSS and hence doesn't support old browsers (despite being the sort of layout for which tables work fine), and the fact that the use of the sidebar results in significant amounts of wasted screen real estate under the sidebar. (I started my journal with 'Penguin Elegant with sidebar' but quickly learned to hate the sidebar; since there was no 'Penguin Elegant WITHOUT sidebar' I made one myself.)

I'm not sure that the addition of the one-month calendar adds that much (and is it going to show only August on August 1st?). And I find the existence of all those components on the friends page kind of weird. Of course it's yours, not mine, so if you like it, hey.

The first item I wasn't aware of. I don't think it will be a problem for most of those who read my journal from the main page.

The space issue is a quirk for me. Seeing the entries stretch the entire width of the screen was just a bit too much for me. That's one of the reasons I added the components onto the friends page (which is not mandatory). And the calendar does help me with quick navigation when referring back to previous entries. So, yeah, it's not the greatest layout, but it's a nice collection of features that I use onto one page.
