Site Unseen

Can somebody explain Friendster to me? Lots of people are on it and rave about it but nobody accurately explains why. The most useful description I've seen so far is [livejournal.com profile] luxnightmare's, "Internet personals for people who think they're too cool for Internet personals."

So, Friendsterphiles, what's the deal?

I don't really see the appeal; I'm just there to be a nexus point.

It's a poorly designed un-user friendly and ugly portal for people who think they are being cool. I got hit on the site by a bunch of friends on the same day, and I responded to them but I find it lame. I think eCircles.com or even sixdegrees.com (back in the day) were much better.

I've found it to be a pretty good stalking tool. I'm more interested in finding people I already know on it, and believe me, there are plenty.

I think they're useless, although my lab think they're the best thing since, um, LiveJournal or something.

I admit, it was amusing to see how many people were in my "friends" network. But I only found 1 person who expressed an interest in anything other than dating/relationship seeking, so it doesn't hold much appeal for me.
