Kingdom Migraines.

So, I know there are people out there in CloudReaderLand who enjoyed Kingdom Hearts and thought it was a great game. (It's been a while, but I'd like to single out [livejournal.com profile] duchez and [livejournal.com profile] katre_blog.) So, picked up the game this week, and I've spent some time playing it, and I'm getting a freaking headache dealing with the camera that acts like Tinkerbell would if she took LSD and was hit by a baseball bat several times.

I don't mean the camera is a metaphorical headache, which it is, I mean I'm getting a headache trying to do accomplish things when I can't see where I am, where I'm going, where my "allies" are, or where the thing that's killing me is.

Was this, like, not a problem for you guys? Is there anything to keep me from taking this back to the store in a few hours?

At least you got past the beginning bit where you're not supposed to hit the shadow things...

I remember being occasionally frustrated at the camera, but I'm such a button-masher anyway - I'd usually just keep pounding the buttons and hope that I'd hit something. That may not be a solution for you, but I did really enjoy the game.

Oh, and don't take it back to the store - just send it to me instead. ( ;

(I borrowed a friend's copy when I played).

I certainly liked it, but I didn't like it a lot. And yeah, parts of it were annoying (the fights, for example). I got very little of the way through, and then reached a battle I can't win, so I've officially Given Up.

To be honest, the camera was distracting me and I couldn't get past the shadow guys in the first bit, because I didn't realize I wasn't supposed to hit them. So I officially handed my game over to katre50, who then plays his game, and then plays my game for me to catch up and I watch.

I've not gotten very far because every time I sit down to play it, I end up with small children in the room. Some day I will finish it.

Oh.. and you're not supposed to hit the shadow things in the beginning? :| Dang, did I ever play that wrong!

I didn't have much problem with the camera, because seeing what's going on is so often just unnecessary. Once you get into the game's rhythm, most of the fights boil down to "jump hit-hit-hit hit-hit hit-hit-hit-hit jump hit-hit hit heal."

No, the part that drove me nuts was the platforming. The Alice in Wonderland madness-inducing platforming. Strange that the other platforming sections, some of which were considerably more challenging, didn't bother me half as much.

I really liked it, tho I think I may be immune to most stupid camera tricks, for some reason.

My issues with it:

I wasn't so keen on the very-quickly-respawning enemies. Also, in those places that you can fly/swim there should have been a better targeting system. Some of the side-quest tasks were nearly impossible (Phantom boss, Ultima Weapon), and one was actually impossible (Red trinity mark disappears forever after you defeat a particular boss).

I gave up on KH for the exact same reason. I got tired of fighting Cerberus when the camera kept deciding to wander away for a snack.

Just so ya know.

You--you play consoles, Ferrett? I knew you played PC games; I remember your comments on The Temple of Elemental Evil. I . . . I never knew. Your badassery is increasing!
