Still Not the TV Meme.
I've updated the previous post with extra quotes for the characters that haven't been guessed. Some notes on the ones that have been:
Arrested Development: Narrator. I decided to use AD, so I started scanning through the list of characters. And really, I couldn't say that any of the characters were my favorite. I just kept drifting back to that silhouette that said "Narrator". The truth is that all of the characters on the show are unlikable. They have to be, because if we start liking them too much, then it stops being funny when horrible things happen to them. Luckily, we don't have to like them. We can like the narrator, and just rely on the fact that he likes them. Backup quote: "Jessie had gone too far and she had best watch her mouth."
Veronica Mars: Logan Echolls. Logan was pegged early in the series as the "school psychopath." But as the season has progressed, that image has been complicated. He's still kind of a psycopath, but he's also fiercely loyal. He's an arrogant SOB, but he's willing to tone down his hostility when he sees that others are. And he gets some of the best lines in the damn show. Backup quote: "Annoy tiny blonde one. Annoy like the wind."
The Simpsons: Troy McClure. I started looking for a quote for Lisa, but it was a lie. A LIE! My heart often resides with the secondary characters, and Troy has always been my favorite. It's been a while since he was on the show, for obvious reasons, and the hole he left has been filled by new secondary and tertiary characters, but he's still one of the greatest. Backup quote: "It's not really a floor, it's more of a steel grating that allows material to sluice through so it can be collected and exported."
Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law: Dr. Myron Reducto. It was a close race between Reducto and Phil Ken Sebben, but the little guy won. I've always thought that he was a great character, and the fact that he's the only one on the show who seems to have a somewhat normal relationship with Harvey fascinates me. Backup quote: "BACK OFF!"
The Venture Brothers: Brock Samson. Patrick Warburton is just the man. That's about it. As I was scanning through Brock lines, it became clear that most of them weren't funny on their own. But in context, they're hilarious. And Warburton loads even the simplest lines with disdain, fury, or whatever else is needed.
Cowboy Bebop: Jet Black. Another character that does a lot more watching than active quipping. He's also loaded with most of the exposition. But he's an honest, straight-up guy, probably the best person out of his compatriots, if not necessarily the best bounty hunter. He does have a tendency to be a bit maudlin, but he's the one I'd want to, you know, spend time with. In space. Backup quote: "I'm often told I don't look 36, but you shouldn't judge people based on appearances. Or how much hair they have."
