tablesaw: Sketch of an antique tablesaw (Antigua)

Snare the Snark.

Perhaps you are not familiar with Television Without Pity's "Now or Never" line of merchandise. Shirts and other items are made available for order during a one-month period, and then the chance to get them is gone gone forever. They're typically "niche products", which means they appeal to a small audience of TV viewers. Of course, there's no official connection to any copyright-protecting television show, but smart watchers can infer a connection. "My ox is broken!" proclaims one shirt. "Perfectly cromulent!" says another. "Getting halfway there is all the fun!" boasts Oceanica Airlines, whose logo was available on T-shirts and messenger bags. I missed that messenger bag by one day, and it made me sad.

This month has one of the best line-ups since the U.S. Government Inter-Agency Baseball League. The weakest of the bunch is a T-shirt that admonishes "Always take backup," and features a profile of some dog. Although I'm a fan of the show that might possibly be related to this shirt, I don't think I'd get it. It certainly doesn't live up to NoN T-shirt of a theoretical gym shirt from the high school featured in the possibly related show.

Next we have two items that might, in some way, be related to an amazing show that perhaps shows people racing from place to place. First, there's a simple messenger bag, with a yellow-and-red flag and a signature "Bomp!" I must say, I'm seriously considering getting this. I could use a bag like this, and although it's not as wacky as the Oceanica Airlines bag, I do like the design and the message. The other item, a T-shirt features a yellow traffic sign with black arrows pointing left and right. What does this shirt say about it's wearer? "I am complex. I am mysterious. I present many options—some of which seem easy but may take a long time, and others that seem hard but will be over in seconds." In short, as the shirt explains, "I have my own pros and cons."

But the cream of the crop, which should be appreciated by just about everyone on my friends list, is the Some Island postcard set. "Greetings," says one, "from SOME ISLAND . . . or another dimension or secret government test site or maybe purgatory or something we're not sure." Another card features the outline of some apparently French chick. A third features tropical flora. Plus polar bear. Plus "WTF?"

Plus, shipping is free.

Yeah, I know I'm not going to be watching the (possibly related) show this season, and I'm encouraging you to do the same. So what? This is quality stuff. Take a look at the detail on these postcards. I might even get two sets, one for me and one for mailing.

And remember, Now or Never. You have until October 5 to decide.

I'm still sorry I didn't get a "My ox is broken!!" t-shirt. I like the "pros and cons" one!

Is it okay for me to watch the third possibly related show if I also watch the first? I'm still not sure which one I'm going to watch "live" though.

Oooh... I might have to get the pros/cons shirt as well.

Ha! The Some Island set is great! Gotta strike while the iron's hot -- hope they sell well.

I ordered a Detour shirt for me and one for Rose. Thanks for the reminder to check that stuff.

I love my "Ox is Broken" t-shirt. It's shrunk a little, so I don't wear it often. During the MIT Hunt's TWOP-based puzzle, I left the room to change into it before we started in on it.

I strongly considered getting the Detour shirt this time too.

But the BOMP bag ... well, it's nice and all, but as someone pointed out, it sure doesn't take much for a casual observer to see "BOMB!" there. I can easily see some messy situations developing from this bag.
