Mac Daddy.

So, I'm going to try to hook into my landlord's wireless network. Does anyone have any advice on what hardware I should get for my Windows XP machine to connect it to a network being run off of an Apple AirPort Extreme?

being that I use an airport express (for its size and portability) for work off of an XP machine, I've found that it doesn't really matter what hardware you use as long as it has the 802.11b/g standard.

Pretty much anything should work. I'm in a similar situation, going from a 2k machine to a classic airport hub. I can't really recommend the linksys card I have, it drops the connection occasionally, but for the most part it's fine (the problems may be due to the bad reception we get in the house).

If it's not encrypted, though, just make sure you have a firewall up and running to protect yourself. Assuming you don't already, that is.

Any wireless card should do the trick as long as it's Wi-Fi Certified for 802.11b and/or 802.11g.

My wireless card doesn't work while in your house, so it may either be protected or my wireless card may just be ghetto.

Hm then maybe TS should get a friend with a wireless laptop to drop by to see if he can pull in a strong enough signal to begin with.
