Planning.
It's weird to think that in a week, I'll have a new videogame console.
While I was out looking for my new monitor, I started thinking about HDTV. My current TV is starting to show its age, especially when I try to watch or play something bright. Still, I am a cheap bastard, and I don't intend to pay a thousand dollars for a television. On the other other hand, I don't know how confident I am to try to get something used. And to top it all off, most HD recommendation guides are oriented toward DVD movie fans, while I'll be focused more on TV and gaming.
So far, the best-value options I have through standard channels is this Samsung and this Vizio. Honestly, despite it's tubuloisty, I'm leaning toward the Samsung, particularly because Circuit City is currently offering to deliver it to my house and set it up for me for free.

With that out of the way, all I can say is that I have been exceptionall happy with Samsung's customer service and am now finally happy with my TV.
Also, a small note on CRT HDTVs: geometry issues. They can get weird bending on the edges because the way the light is sent out of the guns that fire the colors.
Toups got This TV from Best Buy and has been very happy with the quality.
And, like, seriously, you get what you pay for with these. Most people who have complained about their "new HDTV" usually bought cheap/no-name brands with terrible customer support. Vizio sounds pretty no-name. If it is ANYTHING like my 32" Westinghouse you won't be able to play any videogames because of the amount of lag they have. CRT tube HDTVs don't have that issue.
Seriously, I spent 6 months shopping around and compairing things. I would recommend that you do a lot of research (which I know you will) and probably visit AVS Forums (video/home theatre-philes).
Hope that helps
