Why Did I Do That?

So, I take a shower, I get ready for bed, then I start reading about Boston trying to set a precedent to severely limit public speech, l and now I'm too damn angry to sleep.

If you're wondering, this is the Massachussets statute involved.

You'll notice that a key part of the crime is "the intent to cause anxiety, unrest, fear or personal discomfort to any person or group of persons." This is why, instead of just trying to use the (goverment-induced) panic as a justification for arrest, the assistant attorney general had to claim that the intent of the ad campaign was "to get attention by causing fear and unrest that there was a bomb in that location."

There's absolutely no way that argument is going to fly. First of all, the ads don't look like bombs, evidenced by the hundreds of people who have seen these ads and not experienced bomb-based fear and unrest. Second of all, seriously, how the fuck can Boston claim that anyone would come up with that as a marketing strategy? They're moving us into fucking South Park Land here, folks!

If people are alarmed by electronic devices with cartoon characters on it, then the terrorists have already won.
