Shock and Awe.

[livejournal.com profile] ojouchan is still in shock from her Eid gift, which many readers of this journal helped to create. She was considering buying a used camera immediately, but now she's considering holding off until January when I can help out with some more money. Regardless, she hasn't figure out how to thank her gifters, including me.

But both of us were shocked when last night, getting out the door late to my parents' Christmas Eve party, we were told we should probably move our car because "it was on fire."

The car wasn't on fire, but the Little Country Church of Hollywood completely ablaze. This church is directly behind our carport, so as we ran to the car in our Sunday best, carrying presents, flames were rising up behind my car.

We headed to my parents' but turned around quickly when we realized how bad the wind was. There was a good chance we would need to evacuate our stuff. But the LAFD had things undercontrol pretty quickly, and the fire didn't spread beyond nearby palm trees. We were able to get to my parents only an hour later than we'd planned.

The rest of the holiday has been pleasantly uneventful.

Merry and Uneventful Christmas to the rest of you!

Love, Tablesaw

Glad to be of Service...

Thanks for your kind words regarding the efforts of Los Angeles Firefighters in Hollywood last night. Though saddened by the physical destruction of this fire, we were pleased that only one Los Angeles Firefighter was injured battling this wind-whipped blaze. I am pleased to let you know that he is soon to be headed home to share Christmas Day with his family. Your confidence in the men and women of the LAFD is central to our being. Please rest assured that we will do everything in our power to remain worthy of your respect and praise.

Yours in Safety and Service,

Brian Humphrey
