Last week, I checked the Sandman TPBs out of the library and gave the series a full read (minus The Wake, which they didn't have). It was the first time I'd read most of them in over a decade. Then, a few nights ago, I had a dream that was, in its entirety, several issues of Sandmand that never existed. This was, for obvious reasons, creepy.

We'll be heading over to thefreak's apartment tonight for the Vice-Presidential debate. Unlike many of my friends, I am more filled with apprehension than glee. ozarque has been keeping an eye on how Palin

• I don't see any way that Obama and Biden -- or their spokespersons -- can come back at her on anything remotely like an equivalent basis without instantly being smothered in "picking on the girl" and "being sexist exactly the same way they were sexist about Senator Clinton" accusations.
  
• If Obama or Biden try to hit back at the "mom next door" persona they're in even deeper water; they're radical liberals with no morals attacking motherhood and apple pie and football and the flag.
  
• I keep remembering the strategy Ronald Reagan used so often -- the one where he pretended to be utterly clueless, over and over again, and then came roaring out of the pretense with killer lines and killer rhetoric.

The rules for debating Gov. Palin are different. If you lecture her, you'll be seen as a sexist bully. If you act too smart, you'll be seen as a sexist bully. If you condescend to her, you'll be seen as a sexist bully.

Biden has a lot to lose tonight. I'm just hoping that it doesn't translate to major losses for Obama, who, if the election were being held today, would be projected to win by a margin of awesome.

Maybe I just live in a liberal bubble or don't want my buzz killed, but I think the public is getting smarter than that. Judging by an article I saw in the Times today, the Couric interview is doing a lot to convince people that Palin truly doesn't know what she's doing. (OK, Couric being a woman might be helping there.)

One of the most surprising and disappointing aspects of this election is that I'm realizing that a lot of people don't understand what sexism IS. Or gender relations, for that matter. There seem to be people across the ideological spectrum who think gender relations is like Red Sox vs. Yankees or something. And that feminism is about quotas rather than meaningful advances in women's lives. The more feminist candidate is the one who supports (e.g.) equal pay, not the one who has tits!
