Hello Let Me Post about Myself Again Okay
This morning,
ojouchan, a friend, and I went out to brunch in Silverlake. We decided to wait for an inside table because of the possiblity of rain, and I scrounged up some quarters to by a Sunday LA Times. Later, when we'd been seated, and I was flipping through the sections, Ojou exclaimed, "Ooh, brown people, go back!" Excited about the prospect of a Sunday news story focused on people of color, she pulled out this week's Parade Magazine.
She did not get the story she expected.
On the other hand, we did spend the meal seated behind Flea and Pete Townsend singing songs to their kids over breakfast.
Yesterday was spent at
tinhornnpl's house playing games. I watched Vikings played as I arrived. I played Wits and Wagers and lost horribly, and played Maharaja and eked out a win. Then we looked at Dominion and were confused, so we decided to play pinball instead.
Tinhorn had acquired a new pinball machine since I'd been there last: Theatre of Magic, and we decided we'd all have more fun playing it than looking for a new game. We started a four-player game where most of us learned how to play while Tin kicked our asses. Then
cramerica went home, and we had a three-player game where I did a little better (and Tin landed a place on the top-scores slate). Then Andrew went home and I played one last game with Tin. To my surprise and pride, I managed to beat his score on the third game, though I ended up within two million points of a billion, which made me a little sad.

Pssh! Inflation. Back in my day, a champion player would be thrilled to get a hundred thousand.

Looking forward to Dominion, which has rocketed up the charts on BGG. And Android, which I bought a month ago, when we have a 12-hour session to spare.

In a nutshell: you start with a small deck, which you draw a hand from. Every card you play (including money), and every card you don't play, gets thrown in your personal discard pile; when your deck runs out, you shuffle your discard pile to replace it. Your goal is therefore to buy cards which you want to keep showing up in your hand over and over as you recycle your deck. It's like Magic, except you build your deck over the course of the game instead of over the course of years.

There's one thing about that table that always bugged me, actually, though it's minor and doesn't affect the gameplay. When you lose your ball early enough for the ball saver to return it, the lady says, "Here is another chance." I can't help but feel that it was a wasted opportunity. I so want to hear the man say, "All part of the show, folks!".
Sadly, my favorite haunt recently swapped out their Doctor Who for a Hurricane. Talk about a downgrade! - ZM
