FWIW

It's common practice to use BCC for recipients of a mass e-mail so that

  • the "To:" line isn't clogged with fifty thousand names
  • people don't see other peoples' e-mail addresses
  • no accidental or deliberate Reply-To-All is possible


This is used a lot in mailing lists, for example.
