Crocodile Dundee, Maybe?

Speaking from my own perspective in Los Angeles, koalas were really big in the '80s, but they aren't as prevalent any more. Is it just me?

No, there was a definite boom in koalas. (I noticed it in Atlanta so it's not just LA.) I want to say early 80s, and especially as a little toy that grabbed on to your clothing so you could wear it around.
