Aug. 10th, 2003 10:34 amThe deadline for filing candidacy papers for the October 7 special election was last night at 5 o'clock. An initial count has 158 names on the ballot. Some may be disqualified during the signature-verification process before Wednesday, but it looks like most are here to stay. A disturbingly full list, including short bios on most entrants, can be found at the LA Times. As before, registration and cookies are required. Last minute filers include candidates Kelly Kimball and Scott Mednick, who are promoting "Butt Monkey Beer;"
candidate Sergio Myers, creator of MTV's Sorority Life and Fraternity Life, who hopes to pitch his candidacy as a new reality television show, working title The Independent; and 100-year-old candidate Mathilda Karel Spak, whose career highlights include being named "ambassador" of 99 Cents Only Stores when she was only 99.
