Well, our axon didn't go hot.
It was pretty cool, though. as the time approached various geeks of different ages convened on the spot, armed with GPSrs and MapQuest printouts. We all waited around a bank of four phones, wondering which would ring. It did, but the guy who answered the phone was confused when the AI asked us to identify it. But, we didn't do so correctly. We gave the real name of the AI, not the nickname, and so the axon went cold.
(It's a simple mistake. And it's been determined by now that there are two messages, one asking for the name, one asking for the nickname.) Luckily, our compatriots located elsewhere had better luck, and now you can hear
the message we would have heard.
I headed back home after that, although there was another site in Santa Monica a little later. I should have stayed, apparently that one was covered by TechTV. That would have been fun.
If you're interested, here's more or less what I wrote in
a comment a little while ago about getting into the game:
So far, there are only two sites, really: ilovebees.com and Dana's Weblog. The blog has a wonderfully clear synopsis as of a few hours ago. In out-of-game sites, there's The Bruce's site that has a compilation of all of the texts of the game. Since these were extremely fractured when they originally appeared, it's a great resource, and a great read. You can also add
netninja_bees to keep updated with solving developments.
