More Than a Feeling.
Apr. 19th, 2006 06:51 amTwo weekends of Miserable Robot Head:
Two Saturdays ago, I was in Boston, and at the suggestion of
lemurtanis and
joecab, I went over to the Uno's in Davis Square for trivia. Unfortunately, probably due to miscommunication, neither of them were there. Luckily, Evan,
wesleyjenn, and
thedan and his girlfriend came with me, and we formed a formidable team. I asked that we be called Miserable Robot Head.
The questions varied wildly, and there is one TV question which should have been identified as not being officially canon. (I was right,
wesleyjenn, it was never mentioned on the show.) And I was excited about being able to divine the answer to the question, "What musician was born in 1955 as William Broad." All in all, we did respectably, we were tied for second going into the final question, and when the final question was very hard, we secured a solid second by betting the minimum while the other team bet more, for some reason. Sadly, I will not be able to partake in the $25 gift certificate, since I don't expect to be at that Uno's for a long while, if ever again.
Our team was named Miserable Robot Head, which I suggested with an alacrity that stunned my teammates into acquiescence. After the game, the host came by to congratulate us and ask what the story was behind the name. I was reduced to the same kind of babbling that accompanies the question, "Why 'tablesaw'?" Basically, it came up once, and I realized it sounded cool.
Now that I'm on the Internet, and not in a pizzeria bar, I can share with you the inspiration of that name, from the Gamer's Quarter forums. On the next page of that thread, I comment that Miserable Robot Head would be a good name for a band. Shortly after I made that comment, I had to name a band so that I could play Guitar Hero.
Guitar Hero made an appearance this past Sunday as well. I wanted to show it to my sister, who had just been talking about the Karaoke Revolution game I'd given her for Christmas. I decided to stow the game in the car, and as the Easter celebration at my aunt's house wound down, I broke out the game and showed it around to my family. Some were better at playing it than others, though everyone enjoyed it. My youngest niece there was probably the worst at playing it, but she really liked trying.
She now really likes the song "I Love Rock and Roll."
I've resubscribed to the NYTX. Perhaps this will mean more posting.
