tablesaw: A young Shawn Spencer learns proper saw technique from his dad. (Cartoon)
When I was leaving work, I knew I should start some serious cleaning, but it wasn't looking like it was going to happen. It was a little chilly, the skies were gray, and I was feeling very tired.

Then things happened.

After some tinkering, I was able to get my wireless network back up to speed. By the time everything was working right, the sun was out. And I thought I'd feel good enough to start cleaning. Then as I was about to begin, I saw that The Blues Brothers was on Comedy Central.

There are movies that you'll stop to watch once you see them on. It's an important list, but it's hard to think of those movies until you see them on TV and realize that you have to stop whatever you're doing and watch it.

Or, in my case, start whatever you're doing and continue doing it while kind of dancing to blues music.

The Blues Brothers is such a wonderful movie, and the soundtrack is great. Taking a break, I decided to look up some information on the Blues Brothers Band. While I was there, I found this speech, from the Blues Brothers' first album, Briefcase Full of Blues:
Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the Universal Amphitheatre. Well, here it is, the late seventies going on 1985. You know, so much of the music we hear today is all pre-programmed electronic disco, we never get a chance to hear master bluesmen practicing their craft anymore. By the year 2006, the music known today as The Blues will exist only in the classical records department of your local library. So tonight ladies and gentlemen, while we still can, let us welcome, from Rock Island Illinois, the blues band of Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues, the Blues Brothers.
It's kind of weird, it is 2006, and The Blues are still alive, but not many people are listening to the modern artists, me included.

I called my dad, because he was the one who got me into The Blues. He was very into it for a while, though now he listens more to jazz. I went with him to the Long Beach Blues Festival in 1999 and saw John Lee Hooker. It was an amazing concert; Hooker called Jimmy Vaughan on stage at one point to tune his guitar for him.

And now it's 2006, and John Lee Hooker is dead. As a wise man once said, "The Blues isn't about making you feel better, it's about making other people feel worse."

But it was still a beautiful day, and after talking with my father, I went back to cleaning and watching Joliet Jake and Elwood on their mission from God.

When the movie was over, things went weird for a little bit. Comedy Central decided to follow The Blues Brothers with Saving Silverman, which opens with footage from a Neil Diamond concert. Now, I love me some Neil, but it wasn't right for today.

Now, I'm hot and tired. I'm going to take a shower, and drink cold drinks until I fall asleep.

Hope you had a good weekend too.
