To CBS's IT department, apparently.

Last night I got a text message:
so, you like puzzle games? www.chainfactor.com
As far as I can tell, this was sent via LJ's text message feature on my profile.

The game isn't anything particularly special, but it looks like the beginning of an ARG. Apparently, it's tied to last Friday's episode of Numbers (featuring [livejournal.com profile] urbaniak) in a few ways. At the moment, the point seems to be unlocking "powers" by finding codes. So far, they have been found as banner ads on CBS websites, though I found that by playing the game, you'll occasionally get "error" messages that lead to more puzzles. I managed to be the first person to unlock a one code, and I followed in others' footsteps for two others.

So why me? I'm guessing that somebody out there reads Beyond Tetris, which has a link to this journal. I guess, from there, they thought that the text would be more interesting.

Unfortunately for them, I don't use my phone very much. I got the message 24 hours after it was sent. It could have been longer, but I'm going to try to see a BSG viewing tonight.

Because of that, I have to go to bed early. Otherwise, I'd totally brave the traffic to go scout out the locations mentioned in this post. If you're interested, [livejournal.com profile] cramerica, one of them's fairly close to you by LAX, I think.

ETA: Found another code by watching my DVRed episode. Turns out, the game "Chain Factor" is part of the plot of the episode, which makes things weird for a few spoilery reasons.
