John Stewart Is Dead.
Jan. 29th, 2008 02:19 pmNo, internet, not Jon. No need to bend over backwards to spread the news like you did for Heath Ledger. This was an earlier John Stewart, a member of the Kingston Trio, the man who wrote Daydream Believer. He a little while ago, but the Hunt kind of put me in a time warp. My father and his friends were huge fans, and I first learned about Stewart on a group vacation to Big Sur. Everywhere we went, we seemed to be listening to a strange song, that was mostly talking, about "The Old Campaigner." As I got older, I listened to California Bloodlines, and understood what all the fuss was about.
My father wrote about him better than I can, but here's a video of him singing one of his best songs, "Mother Country," just last year. Of course, to really get the full effect, you should listen to the original, with his deep, rich voice, but that doesn't appear to be floating on the internet just now. Better find it on your own.
