Apr. 27th, 2008 01:20 amAt a family gathering today, I expected my mom to mention something about my post earlier this week. She'd clearly seen it, read it, and said so. I also expected that my dad probably would have heard about it through her. And he had, and he was also very proud of me.
What I had not expected was my sister hearing about it. My sister, who is not on LJ and who really isn't involved in geek culture, had been directed to the original "Open-Source" post by a friend via a forwarded e-mail. She was reading through the thing on her own and recognized my blogname in the comments.
That's how big this thing is getting.
Anyway, I'd been thinking about a lot of things about suddenly being a prominent man feminist and how sometimes it felt uncomfortable getting attention because of it, and why I was lurking before, and why I'm suddenly posting now, and privilege, and entitlement, and apologies, and so many things I was having trouble getting into a cohesive whole.
I was delighted when I saw
synecdochic had already done it. All of it. Everything I'm working on, everything I want to tell other guys to work on. It's just brilliant, from start to finish, and then from start to finish again.
