I've been having a harder and harder time remembering my dreams. Here are some snippets I remember:

  • I went to a party with my future Mystery Hunt team to practice and get to know one another. Several people whom I know will be on the team were there. So was [livejournal.com profile] trentm. He may have been a representational stand-in for [livejournal.com profile] davidglasser, but he still looked and acted like Trent and everyone called him "Trent". He did no magic, though.
  • At the party, there was a game/puzzle that was a tiling puzzle and word search. I remember working on it in my dream, but my dream manipulations didn't get me very far.
  • At the party, we played a strange form of billiards on a badly homemade table. Some of the balls were fruit.
  • After the party (I think after; the chronology is sketchy), I took a wrong turn coming home and ended up walking through a suburban wonderland where everyone was getting ready for prom, including someone who was related to George "41" Bush.
  • In the same area I came across several high school alumni, including [livejournal.com profile] wintercolours wearing a sexy bathing suit with another friend from high school whom I had run into a few weeks ago. Why was [livejournal.com profile] wintercolours suddenly a member of my high school class? I don't know. For that matter, why can't I remember more about the part of the dream with the sexy girls in bikinis?
  • There was a lot more stuff involving puzzling people, including what may have been a crossword tournament in a preschool. Why was I there? I dunno. But [livejournal.com profile] trentm was there again.
  • There was also a lot of stuff about cameras, video cameras, home movies, and extended sequences with me in the bathroom, unable to "go", having long conversations with people.

Having written this all down, it occurs to me that it would seem as though I remembered quite a lot. However, I can recall that there was a lot of conversation (unusual for my dreams) and realistic, incidental action which is lost to me. Bug.

It's January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany, Little Christmas, Twelfth Day (Twelfth Night was yesterday), the end of the Christmas Season, and that means it's time to take down this tree.

Dead Tree Leaning )

Sigh. It's been a good tree, but its time has come. Farewell, tree. I shall miss you festive lights, but I shall be glad that I can once again watch television while frying a quesadilla.

Onna stick?

I went over to my mother's school this morning to pick up my heavy winter coat (which had been hanging dormant in the closet of my parents' house since I can home from Washington, D.C. for good almost five years ago) for my upcoming Providence trip. While I was out, I stopped by the old Borders to use the gift certificate my grandparents gave me for Christmas. I forgot to bring my ATM card, which saved me from buying much more than my certificate was worth, and in the end I picked up a copy of Games World of Puzzles, which has a highly recommended set of cryptic crosswords by Patrick Berry, the constructor of the cryptics in Harper's Magazine; a copy of The Nation, whose lefter-than-me stance is enjoyable and interesting to me (I'm thinking about subscribing); Los Angeles Times Sunday Crossword Omnibus, Volume 1, all clues of which are written by Barry Tunick, whom I know from NPL parties; and what seems to be a rather standard fantasy story called The Glasswright's Apprentice, which just gave me good vibes.

I also stopped by the Topanga Plaza Shopping Center, thinking I might be able to also use my Sam Goody gift certificate, but there wasn't a SG shop in the mall. (Why did I think there was?) Visiting the food court, I had a hankering for a Hot Dog On A Stick, but there didn't seem to be anyone manning the front, so I left. Instead, I finally visited Ruby's Red Hots, a hot dog place right around the corner from my house. It doesn't open until eleven, so I usually miss it, but today I made it my business to go there. As an old Cherub friend would say, "That is a hot FUCKING dog!" This thing was not only a quality hot dog, it was covered with everything one would want on a hot dog: tomatos, jalapeños, a long pickle wedge, several slices of nonpickled cucumber, onions, a mountain of relish and, of course, mustard on an onion bun. I also ordered cheddar fries, which made for a fine, but extremely messy dinner. Yum.

Eep.

Stayed up too late playing Scr(a)bble with [livejournal.com profile] wintercolours. Right now, I'm about to win, unless Deb can pull a major scorer out of the last seven tiles. Look at how it went here. I'm particularly proud of my penultimate play, STYMIE.

It's important to note, though, that the score is not entirely accurate, since Deb accidentally passed on a turn instead of playing a word. However, the margin of victory seems to indicate that it wouldn't have made a huge difference.

I know it's a bit cocky to post about having won the game when one is still playing the game, but I've stayed up very late playing, and the moment I play my single last tile, I'm going to SLEEP!

Oh wait, there it goes. I won.

Yay Friend.

Rwth just stopped by. She called earlier because she still had some CDs of mine from forever ago, and decided to drive over for no good reason, so we got to do a lot of catching up. Apparently, my Christmas message got lost by her roommate (he really shouldn't be allowed anywhere near messages), and she didn't have my phone number. I just kept forgetting to call.

Anyway, she's developed a nice set of movie buddies, including a new boyfriend, who is apparently nice, though rather unfortunately named. There wasn't a whole lot of catching up, I guess, but it was still fun to drink tea and talk for two hours.

During today's way-too-long Scr(a)bble game, I told [livejournal.com profile] wintercolours that I'd try to make it to the Common Rotation show at the Knitting Factory on Friday. This may or may not happen since (a) I have much preparation to do for my trip, (b) CR doesn't go on until ten, which means I'd need to get a little bit of time off of work, and (c) it's my birthday, and other people may want access to the Tablesaw before he flies away. I think I'd like to go, though. I haven't been to a concert in a while. [livejournal.com profile] sineala, you've seen the band, do you recommend?

Time to chill out and try to fix my borkened sleep schedule. Hasta.
